Decorative Epoxy Flooring Over a Wood Floor in NJ

epoxy flooring, decorative concrete,  epoxy over wood, designer epoxy,  wood resurfacing, concrete resurface, nj, nyc,  nyc

Welcome to my very first blog. This project was a residence in Lake Hopatcong NJ but the same methods can be applied to any commercial space. We begin, in this case with carpet and VCT removal. Once that is completed we staple metal mesh to help eliminate the horizontal expansion and contraction associated with wood floors and to enhance bonding of the polymer concrete. We chose a highly polymer modified concrete and stay away from any gypsum based products. This will provide a new and very strong concrete canvas for us to work on.

In some cases we can stop here and just stain and or seal, but this client required a different finish. This floor was to be epoxy coated with our designer epoxy and marbled by our epoxy artisans. We then had our artist come in and paint Van Gogh murals as per our clients desire. The goal was to have the murals blend and incorporate the epoxy background as opposed to just floating on top like a sticker. Mission accomplished.

The last step was to give it a final sealer. In this occasion we decided to use our favorite polyaspartic sealer. Some ask why use polyurethane or a polyaspartic sealer. Isn't epoxy enough? Well, yes and no....it depends on which epoxy, what the floor is going to be used for and what type of maintenance do you expect to do. Like I explain to all my clients, imagine painting your new car with the best paint in the market, then not clear coating it. It will fade prematurely, stain easily and be difficult to keep and maintain clean. Same with your floor. I'll go into deeper detail on my next blog. :)

So there you go, 3000 sqft in 6 days, we successfully converted this plywood surface into a unique custom designed seamless and impervious work of art.
